CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Trees are coming down and going up in parts of town.
Dozens are being removed near Armory and Wright Street as part of Phase 4 of the MCORE Project. Each part of the project has required some trees to be cut down. More trees will be replanted than are coming down though.
The City says it is necessary work. “MCORE is starting to kick off as soon as the weather starts. We’ll be on Wright Street and Armory, the next two construction cycles right in the heart of campus so we just appreciate everyone’s patience,” said Kris Koester,Champaign Public Works. After all five phases of MCORE are done, 103 trees will have been removed and 167 trees will be planted.
