VERMILION COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Development continues on the Kickapoo Rail Trail.

The Vermilion County Conservation District Board agreed to spend up to $159,000 on retaining an engineering firm for the next phase of the trail.

When completed, the trail will stretch 24 miles along a an abandoned rail line. A segment of the trail opened from Urbana to St. Joseph in August.

More work is scheduled to extend the route to the Champaign-Vermilion County Line this year.
