Tourism on the rise across state

ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Tourism is on the rise in the state and the local area is a big factor in the increase.

According to the Illinois Office of Tourism, Champaign, Douglas, Moultrie and Piatt counties combined for more than $7 million in local tax revenue in 2017; a 7.2% increase from 2016.

This comes from more than $400 million spent by visitors last year. The Office of Tourism says 150 jobs have been created in the Greater Champaign County area as a result of last year’s increased spending.
