ARGENTA, Ill. (WCIA) – A long-time fire chief is hanging up his hat.
Friday was Argenta-Oreana Fire Chief Cory White’s last day on the job.
He said it was a tough call to retire, but as his kids are getting older, he wants to make sure he’s there for them, through all their special moments.
His department said it’s a bittersweet day to say goodbye to the man who considered the entire town his family.
White said he’s grateful for how much his town has done for him.
“The support from the community has been overwhelming. Our darkest days…the worst calls we’ve had…our community has pulled together for us, pulled together for me,” said White.
There will be a sendoff celebration for White on Saturday at the Argenta-Oreana fire station.
We will have more on White’s story coming up next week, as part of Our Town Argenta.
