Teen driver ticketed for hitting school bus

Local News

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — No one was hurt, but a teenager was ticketed after crashing into a school bus. It happened about 7:40 am, Tuesday, on Highway One at 1022 North Road.

Authorities say the bus was stopped with its warning lights on and stop arm out. 18-year old Carter Flowers, of Nokomis, was driving a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup and failed to stop. His vehicle hit the back of the bus.

The bus only sustained minor damage, but major damage was done to Flowers’ vehicle. He was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving under the influence of drugs.

Authorities say a “smoldering cannabis cigarette was found on the dashboard inside the Ford pick-up truck driven by Flowers.”
