UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Social media is an everyday part of our lives, and it is the reason behind a huge grant for the UI.

Researchers are using a $4,000,000 grant to study how information moves across social media and how it affects people’s beliefs.

Computer Science Professor Taerk Abdelzaher is leading the team that received the grant through the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

The professor says the are seeing if social media is creating “echo chambers where we only hear what people who think like us say.”
