URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — A Teacher to Know can check “having an impact on others” off his list. Randy Blackman has done so for 33-years.
He’s been a teacher, a coach and a mentor to hundreds of students over the years. But, this is his last hurrah.
Blackman is an Urbana Tiger through and through. He’s done a little bit of everything at the high school.
He’s currently teaching P.E. and driver’s ed. But, if you ask about his past, he’s been a coach for just about every sport offered; most recently, the boys and girls soccer teams. During his career, he won 425 games on the boys’ side and 167 for the girls.
When asked what he has planned for retirement, he quickly responds he’ll keep teaching behind-the-wheel driving and will help with sports when needed. A true labor of love.
A scholarship is being created in his name, but the amount has not yet been determined since donations are still coming in. The plan is to present it to a student at Blackman’s retirement party.
