URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) -- Urbana's superintendent is taking responsibility for problems that have been happening at the middle and high schools.
We've been telling you about fights and parents' complaints for weeks. Superintendent Don Owen says he wishes he would have handled the roll-out of a new discipline system differently. He says he's learned a lot about communication in the past few weeks. He's going to use what he's learned going forward.
"One of the things that we learned was the importance of over communications and communicating constantly in as many different venues as we can," he says.
The district's discipline changes were made before the start of the school year. They got rid of dean positions and are focusing on restorative practices to help get to the root of issues.
