SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The State Fair kicks off Thursday and the rain isn’t slowing plans at the fairgrounds.
It’s down to the final touches before gates open to the public. This will be the 65th annual celebration.
It will be filled with old traditions, but be on the lookout for some fun, new perks. For the first time, the fair has a roller coaster called the Crazy Mouse.
Another exciting update includes cheaper beer this year. It’s now just $4. Fair officials say they wanted to make things affordable and give adults a happier hour-vibe while here.
Some favorites return and a slate of artists will perform for free each day at the Rising Star Stage. After some complained the fair lacked hip-hop, Ludacris is among the artists performing at the Grand Stand this year.
Other big names headlining this year include Logan Mize, Brett Eldredge, the Offspring and Gym Class Heroes. Tickets for each concert are on sale online.
Roads will also be a little smoother. The state finally invested some money for repairs. Whether you’re coming for rides, food or music, it will be an even smoother day for everyone.
The fair runs until August 19. To brush up on your history and go to the fair, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is offering a joint deal with the fair: $12 gets you in both on the same day.
