GIFFORD, Ill. (WCIA) — Students at Gifford Grade School were evacuated Wednesday because of a gas leak.

When teachers arrived at school, they smelled something off. They escorted kids to the church next door, then contacted parents and stayed with the kids until a parent or bus could take them home.

The assistant administrator says they were prepared for the emergency. The leak was fixed and class will be back in session Thursday.

A few weeks ago, Superintendent Rod Grimsley was caught filing false reports to the state claiming he had held law enforcement drills, but those weren’t happening.
