EASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY (WCIA) — Big changes are coming to EIU. School leaders are realigning several current colleges and even adding a few new ones to the list.

It will help keep the school competitive with other universities. Eastern has struggled with enrollment numbers for years. The hope is the increased opportunities will attract new students.

Changes include the creation of a College of Health and Human Services and new school of Fine and Performing Arts. Some other colleges affected include the School of Business, the College of Education and the Honors College and Research Program. Several will be renamed and reorganized.

The vice president of Academic Affairs says it’s an exciting time for the university. The process starts this summer and the plan is to have it completed over the next two years. University leaders say the changes also fit into the current budget.

Eastern is also going to have a national dean search for the four new colleges. The plans all come from the Vitalization Project and student outreach.
