CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The body of an ISP trooper killed in an accident Wednesday, will be escorted to Farmer City.

Trooper Ryan Albin was died after his squad car was hit by another vehicle in slow, merging traffic.

The route of the procession is from the coroner’s office, in Urbana, to University Avenue, to I-74, to Farmer City. Squad cars will direct traffic and law enforcement will lead the procession.

Albin’s partner, K-9 Officer Biko, was also hurt in the accident, receiving minor injuries. He was just released from the UI Vet Med Clinic, picked up by fellow ISP officers.

DEWITT COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — An Illinois State Trooper is dead following a traffic accident while on patrol.

State police say Trooper Ryan Albin was killed after being hit by a commercial motor vehicle. It happened on I-74 west, near Farmer City just after 3:00 pm, Wednesday.

Trooper Albin was airlifted to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Albin’s  K-9 partner, Biko, was in the rear of the squad car at the time of the crash. Biko was taken to the UI vet clinic and sustained minor injuries.

Both the driver and passenger of the other vehicle are okay and refused medical treatment.

Trooper Albin joined Illinois State Police in 2006. He was assigned to District 6 in Pontiac as a canine officer.

Illinois State Police Director Leo P. Schmitz released this statement:

Our hearts are heavy with grief as we mourn the loss of Trooper Albin. I extend my deepest sympathy to Trooper Albin’s family, friends, and co-workers. I pray that those who cared for and loved him find the strength they need during this most difficult time. No  further words can express the pain and loss we are all feeling.

The crash remains under investigation.

DEWITT COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — An Illinois State Trooper is dead following a traffic accident near Farmer City Wednesday afternoon.

State Police say a trooper’s squad car was hit by a commercial motor vehicle. District 6 K-9 Biko was taken to University of Illinois Emergency Veterinary Hospital following the crash.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle both refused medical treatment. The crash is under investigation.

DEWITT COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — State Police are currently investigating a personal injury crash involving a trooper.

Investigators say the trooper’s squad car was struck by a commercial motor vehicle.

The trooper was airlifted to an area hospital. All westbound lanes of I-74 at milepost 155 are currently closed.

The crash remains under investigation.
