State police arrest Woodstock Republican for drunk driving

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — State police arrested House Republican Steven Reick for drunk driving in Springfield around midnight on Wednesday night.

Police arrested Reick at the intersection of South Grand and Eastdale Avenue and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol. Reick was booked at the Sangamon County jail. He was released Thursday morning and is scheduled to appear in court on May 30th, the day before the state budget deadline.

“I made a stupid and regrettable decision last night and accept full responsibility for my actions,” the second-term 66-year-old from Woodstock said through a spokesperson.

Reick is the second lawmaker to be arrested on suspicion or driving under the influence this legislative session. House Democrat Kam Buckner of Chicago claimed he was exhausted, not intoxicated, when Capitol police arrested him last month. Buckner declined to take a breathalyzer test.
