Standoff suspect named

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The man who started a standoff with police when they tried to serve a felony warrant on him has been identified.

20-year old Marcus Monger was arrested on multiple charges including aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault on a police officer, possessing firearms without a FOID card, resisting a peace officer and an IDOT warrant with no bond.

About 11:30 am, Tuesday, US Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force attempted to locate Monger who was wanted on a felony arrest warrant in the 1700-block of Seven Pines Road. Monger was spotted and a confrontation occurred. Gunshots were fired and Monger ran into an apartment building.

The area was secured and authorities tried to evacuate all residents. Monger was eventually taken into custody without further incident. Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in bringing the matter to a close. 

The entire incident lasted about 5-1/2 hours.
