Some express relief after murder arrests

VERMILION COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Many have a mix of emotions after hearing two people have been arrested for a double shooting which killed an area mother.

31-year old Kimberly George was shot and killed in her home on Mill Road, in Georgetown. Eric Stark was also shot, but he survived. Police say a man and a woman confessed to killing George. Both have been arrested.

Many residents of the mobile park have kids of their own. Even though two people have been arrested, some say it’s still unsettling for them.

George was a mother of three. She was murdered in her own home. The day after, some neighbors still can’t find the words to describe their sadness.

Jeannie Jones says, “You lose your thoughts. I couldn’t sleep last night. I was up all night.”

Police say George and Stark’s two children were there when the murder happened, but they weren’t hurt. They also say two people, a man and a woman confessed to killing George and were arrested.

This news is a relief to some.

Karlee Verhoeven lives right next door to George.

She says, “It’s much less stressful knowing they’ve been caught.”

Michelle Miles says, “It’s a big relief, big relief knowing I don’t have to be so scared anymore and coming outside and wondering if they’re out there still.”

Many people who live at the mobile home park say they keep to themselves. But it’s a neighborhood filled with families.

“There’s a lot of neighborhood kids around here all the time,” says Jones.

Since this happened, some parents are being more cautious than ever before.

“I usually never had to lock my doors. Now I’m locking my doors and my windows and monitoring them outside when they play.”

What’s running through this parent’s mind is a question which hopefully will never be answered.

“What if it was my trailer they knocked on or if it was my kids? I’m a mom of three so it’s very terrifying and I just feel sad. It’s very sad.”

The police chief says George and Stark knew the suspects. Both people have been arrested on first degree murder charges. Their names haven’t been released. They’re due in court Wednesday.
