CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Police and Edison Middle School administrators were made aware a student shared a message on SnapChat with peers, including a threat to the school during the National Student Walkout Wednesday morning.
Police determined there was no immediate threat. Investigators say the student in question sent a private social media message to a group of friends which was intended as a joke, however, was threatening in nature.
The student was removed from the school and referred to the Youth Assessment Center for further evaluation. Police continue investigating.
The student will not be at school Wednesday and the situation will be addressed in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
School staff will provide supervision for all students, those who choose to participate and those who remain in their classrooms, and police will be on site to assist with monitoring.
