CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — They’re singing their hearts out to fight breast cancer.
Prairie Dragon Paddlers hosted its inaugural event Sing for the Health of It. The Paddlers are the first Illinois Dragon Boat Team. It’s made up of breast cancer survivors.
The night was dedicated to the cause. Some singers performed in honor of a loved one who had the disease. This is all part of the paddlers’ goals.
“Our mission is not only supporting local breast cancer survivors, it’s also to educate the public about breast cancer awareness and then half of the proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards local researchers at the University of Illinois Cancer Center,” says Kelly Brandham.
Some guest singers performed, including a duet from Champaign Mayor Deb Feinen and Urbana Mayor Diane Marlin.
