CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The coroner has released the name of a man who died after a shooting in downtown Champaign.
48-year old Darin Mitchell was pronounced dead about 7:15 am, Friday, from complications of a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Police found Mitchell suffering the gunshot wound about 9:10 pm, Thursday, in the 700-block of North Hickory Street. He was taken to the hospital and rushed into surgery.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday afternoon. An inquest may be held at a later date. His death is being investigated.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The man shot outside the American Legion Thursday night has died from his injuries.
Police responded to the 700-block of North Hickory Street about 9:10 pm. They found the 48-year old victim suffering a serious gunshot wound. He was rushed into surgery, but it was unsuccessful.
Authorities say an investigation revealed a verbal altercation outside the American Legion turned physical.
Anyone with additional information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers. Tipsters are always 100% completely anonymous.
