Shelter needs more room

Local News

MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — A homeless shelter is opening, but it needs some help from the community. The people who work at the shelter say they need more room.

The Haven used to be known as PADS. It gives food, resources and a place to sleep to those in need. It’s  getting a makeover but needs some help from the community. Workers are primarily looking for donations of sheets and linens for the new building.

The old building had 15 beds. One room was divided with curtains between everyone. The new building will be able to accommodate more people with 25 beds and separate rooms for men, women and families.

People who want to help can attend a volunteer recruitment open house at the Haven’s current building at 5 pm, August 31.
