Serving felony warrant becomes standoff

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — An armed suspect was eventually taken into custody on a felony arrest warrant.

About 11:30 am, Tuesday, the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force tried to find the suspect who was seen and confronted in a parking lot in the 1700-block of Seven Pines Road.

Gunshots were fired and the suspect ran into an apartment building where he currently lives.

Police, including the Emergency Response and Hostage Negotiation teams were called to assist. The building was surrounded and an attempt was made to evacuate residents.

The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. Authorities processed the crime scene. No further information has been released.
