CUNNINGHAM TOWNSHIP, Ill. (WCIA) — The town assessor found almost 200 people are missing out on hundreds of dollars.
The Senior Homestead Exemption can save homeowners 65 and older about $500 every year. It is ultimately up to homeowners to read their tax bill and find the exemptions, but you might miss it if you don’t go through it thoroughly.
Wayne Williams, Cunningham Township assessor, thought they might find a dozen people missing out, not almost 200.
“You come to either the County Assessor’s Office or you can come to my office. Fill out the Senior Exemption form, show proof of ownership, in this case it would be the deed, and proof of age which is an ID.”
After you do that, they will process your exemption. They will be sending out letters with the tax form to the people they found who were missing out.
