SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — You’re never too old to go to the State Fair. Monday, hundreds of the state’s oldest poured into the fairgrounds for the annual Senior Day. All seniors got free admission.
It’s a day to let loose and enjoy all the perks of the fair designed especially with them in mind. They’re having a lot of special events, including a crowd favorite, the Not-So-Newlywed Games.
For the fifth year, the state brought back the game. It just like the famous Newlywed Show, but for couples who have been together for decades, so the stakes are a little higher.
A handful of couples put their love to the test. A couple questions asked include, if you could pick an actress to play your wife in a movie, who would it be? Answers included Dolly Parton and Elizabeth Taylor.
Another, if you could throw out one thing of your spouses, what would it be? Guys overwhelmingly said their wives’ shoes and clothes. Definitely entertaining, but, in the end, only one couple took home the grand prize.
They just celebrated their 57th anniversary and gave a little advice to younger couples. They say never go to sleep mad and wake up every morning telling your spouse you love them. Wise words. They planned to spend some of their $100 winning at the fairgrounds.
Senior Day is an annual event with tons of resources. There are free healthcare examinations, like blood pressure and immunization checks, available at the Illinois Building.
