TOLONO, Ill. (WCIA) — A Central Illinois town is mourning the death of a teenager.

“This week we lost one of our former players. In honor of C.J. Parks’ memory, we ask that you join us in recognizing a moment of silence.”

The Unity High School Rockets football team honored 18-year old Carl Parks, Jr.

He was killed in a car crash on County Road 900 North, Thursday, October 26. Police say he lost control of his car, rolled several times through a ditch and came to rest in a field.

School officials say, he was a big part of the community.

“Anytime, in a small town where you’re a member of the football program, as involved as the parents are in the football program, as involved as the school is with the football program, and he was also a member of the bass fishing team, so they’ve also won sectional titles and had a lot of success, and he was a big part of that,” says Unity High School Assistant Principal Tim Gateley.

The crash Parks died in is still under investigation.
