URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — New programs, updated buildings and another elementary school. They’re all features the school district could be adding in the future. It’s looking at all options.
For most, it would be years before any became realities, but officials say the first step is planning. They’re doing a few different studies to see what’s possible for the future.
They discussed them at Tuesday night’s school board meeting. Officials say they’re looking at options for high- and middle-school devleopments and potential rennovations for two elementary schools: Thomas Paine and Wiley.
They say they’re also eyeing other possibilites for Wiley, like making it a special school for science or language. Finally, they say the city could eventually get a seventh elementary school.
Officials discussed the site for the potential school, just north of I-74. Again, these are just studies district leaders are considering to plan for the future and nothing’s set in stone.
One project which is underway is construction on Yankee Ridge Elementary. Officials say the project is on schedule and on budget. They hope to finish by August, just in time for the new school year.
