ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Schools in the state have the highest administration costs in the country.

According to a new report, 852 school districts spent more than $1 billion in fiscal 2016.

The state also spent more than twice as much per student in administrative spending than the national average. Groups have been pushing for the consolidation of districts.

They say eliminating some of the administration’s costs would help solve some of the state’s woes when it comes to education.
