URBANA, Ill. (WCIA)–One organization has spent the last 34 years celebrating Dr. King.
The Dr. Martin Luther King Advocacy for Justice Committee gives students the opportunity to live their dreams by giving them scholarships.
The groups spent the day awarding these students and reflecting on the life of Dr. King.
Following Dr. King’s lead by giving away scholarships is how this group makes a difference.
“It is a great feeling to be able to give back to the community,” fundraising chairman Larry Lewis says.
“To sew a seed into the life of a young individual in order for their dreams and their ambitions may be fulfilled.”
He says tonight was about remembering the past and not repeating it and it was a reminder for the world to keep moving in a positive direction.
