UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS (WCIA) — MTD rolled out a new app to take you anywhere you want to go on campus. It’s part of the Safe Ride program.

Leaders are making it even easier to use. It’s doing away with paper and pencil. This new technology will let you place where you are and where you want to go on your phone.

If you’re trying to use Safe Ride, you’re no longer limited to bus routes. You can put in wherever you are and the app will do a trip planner.

It will then place you on a Safe Ride to make sure you get to your destination. It’s used in campustown, but anyone can use the app and Safe Ride feature.

A test was done over spring break and now it’s up and running. All you do is download the app, then pay for the ride like you would any other bus ride.

MTD says the purpose of Safe Rides is to give people traveling alone safe transportation. They can pick up three people at each location, but they don’t provide service to and from bars.
