UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS (WCIA) — A coffee stand on UI’s campus is serving up drinks in a non-traditional way.
At Yummy Future your order is made and served by a robot instead of a barista. UI engineering students built the coffee stand from scratch. It’s all automated, from a touch screen menu, to the robot arm handing you custom-made drinks.
One of the startup’s founders says this is the first step in making something much bigger in the future.
Guangzhou Cui says, “I think to do a successful startup. It’s the first step toward changing the world. I feel like I want to make more impact. It totally depends on what I work on, but if I’m working on good things that might change the world one day, then that feels great.”
They plan to stay open until the end of the year. The coffee stand is located at the pedestrian crosswalk on West Springfield across from the UI Grainger Engineering Library.
