MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — A new rehab center might make its way to town to help combat an area drug problem.
Adult and Teen Challenge Illinois is working with city officials to open its doors. It’s a faith-based rehabilitation program.
The facility would open in what used to be the Douglas Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Because the building was originally used to treat patients through physical therapy, ATCI needs to have the space rezoned for substance abuse treatment.
It’s having its second hearing with the planning commission Tuesday night. Things being discussed include parking and what adding so many additional active adults to the neighborhood would do.
People with the center say they want to work with the community. The facility would be an all-mens center and only available to those who have already completed three months of treatment.
There will be 60 beds available, but not all will be filled at the same time. ATCI helps those with substance abuse problems through ministry.
