SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Poboys Kitchen had its grand opening.
The co-owner says it’s serving up more than what’s on the menu. They employ former inmates. The owner, Lynard Joiner, went to prison. He says he knows what it’s like to have a hard time finding a job after getting in trouble.
“I seen how difficult it was for me when I first came out here. It took me a year and a half to get a job,” said Joiner.
He started SING; Shifting Into a New Gear. It helps people who were formerly incarcerated get the resources they need to get back into society. Part of the program is his new restaurant.
“I feel good just being able to give back to this community,” said Joiner.
