DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Local residents are banning together to help renovate neighborhoods.

It was a full house at Monday night’s city council meeting. Community members came eager to share ideas and suggestions with city officials.

Together, they hope to demolish and restore buildings which are falling apart. It could cost the city more than $1 million.

One council member says he’s excited, but wants to remain optimistic. He says it will take some time.

This is the first of several meetings on the topic. Council members say this will be a step-by-step process taking place over the course of several years.
