ILLINOIS (WCIA) — October was supposed to be payday for thousands of state workers waiting on wage increases, but instead they’re facing yet another hurdle.

The courts and labor board ordered Governor Bruce Rauner to make a plan to pay back frozen wages to new hires by October 1, but his office says it needs more time to calculate the money and is asking for another hearing to settle disputes about the amount.

In the meantime, more than 20,000 state workers remain on standby.

Rauner’s office requested the delay in an 18-page letter Tuesday.

Wednesday, Comptroller Susana Mendoza demanded the governor pay back the money and “stop violating court orders.”
