DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A new report shows VA hospitals across the country, including those here locally, are trying to fill thousands of open positions.
At the end of June, the VA Illiana Health Care System had 167 open full-time jobs. Most of those were in medical and dental fields. Officials say vacancies are a normal part of any organization and they don’t affect patient care.
Nationally, VA officials have said openings like these come in part from a shortage in healthcare professionals.
Officials at Lakeview College of Nursing say the nursing shortage comes from the large number of baby boomer nurses who are retiring. They say a number of their grads stay in the area, and they would love to talk to the VA about nursing opportunities.
