NATIONAL (WCIA) — For the last few years, it seems Illinois has made headlines for all the wrong reasons, but it doesn’t look like the Land of Lincoln has lost all of its appeal.
A new survey ranks Illinois one of the best states to raise a family. Overall, Illinois is the 15th best place to do it out of all 50 states.
The poll was done by financial site, Wallethub. Rankings were based on dozens of factors including health, safety, family income, house affordability and education.
Illinois did fall short in some areas and didn’t make the top five in any specific category. The study lists top states for low childcare costs, violence and poverty rates.
Still, some say they couldn’t live anywhere else. The study was based on current population numbers to ensure fairness.
Clearly a lot has changed in the state in the past decade. There’s been a huge drop in population and money troubles. Unfortunately, it does not provide much to compare, still, maybe the study can restore some people’s faith in the state.
The top five best places in Illinois to raise a family were Naperville, Libertyville, Troy, Washington and Columbia.
