SULLIVAN, Ill. (WCIA) — Our Town has a special bakery whipping up homemade donuts and a variety of other sweet treats. After years of not having one in town, one woman decided to take the reins.
She doesn’t have a background in baking. She had to learn the ins-and-outs of making good eats, but says everything happens for a reason. She’s proud to say she brought back some of the area’s favorites.
It’s every sweet-tooth lover’s dream: cases of freshly baked desserts and pastries.
“We make everything here in-house.”
That’s because Drew Zibinden wanted to bring back a town staple: the Sullivan Bakery.
“It was definitely something the community wanted and needed and we decided it was time to bring it back.”
Since opening two years ago, she says she’s had nothing but sweet success and her donuts are a customer favorite for sure!
“The donuts are where it’s at. The donuts are our claim to fame and as close to the original as we will get. It’s the original taste of the glazed and the long johns and definitely the maple squares.”
Each day, she makes all her goodies fresh. It’s a skill she learned when she opened up shop because quality is key in her cookbook.
“Our generation doesn’t want to be numbers anymore, but we want to know where our food comes from. It’s time for us to revive our small towns.”
