Proposal to get more people ready for the armed services

Local News

SPRINGFIELD (WCIA) — Some retired veterans hope a new proposal will help young adults qualify for the military.

A study shows 70% of all 17 to 24 year olds are ineligible for the armed services.

That’s why a group called Mission Readiness is pushing for more funding for early childhood education.

They say these programs help kids further their education, stay in shape and keep them out of trouble.

They’re asking for an extra $50,000,000 in this year’s budget.

The governor’s proposal already gives them an extra $10,000,000.
