Police share Christmas cheer with kids

Local News

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Champaign Police helped spread some Christmas cheer for families at their annual “Shop with a Cop” event.

It’s a holiday tradition at the department. This year, 57 kids got $150 each to spend on anything they wanted. Meijer was flooded with parents, police, and kids searching the aisles for presents.

For some, this was more than they could’ve dreamed of. 8-year-old Kyson Otis says, “It makes me feel really special and I’m really glad I get to do this because not many kids get to do this. And I’m really excited.”

This was the 16th annual event for Champaign Police. The department raised about $8,500 to give to the families.
