Police say drug deal ended with gun shots

Local News

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Police say a teenage girl was shot Saturday when a drug deal went wrong.

It happened on Willis Avenue near McKinley Street in Champaign. Police say an 18-year-old was buying drugs there when a man inside the house tried to steal her purse. Then, he hit her with a hand gun when she refused and shot her when she tried to run away.

Police say she’ll be okay, and this sort of thing isn’t as uncommon as you’d think. Drug deals often turn violent, one of the many reasons police advise against getting involved with them.

If you have any information about this crime, contact the Champaign police. Of you can call Crime Stoppers if you’d like to remain anonymous.
