CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Two bank robberies in two weeks. Monday, police shared what they’re doing to prevent more.
Two Saturdays ago, First Midwest, at Springfield and Prospect, was robbed. This Saturday, it happened at Regions Bank on South State near West Clark.
Authorities say, while there are some similarities, the robberies are probably not related. What makes them appear similar is time of day, similar location and the way the suspects were dressed.
Footage from surveillance video allows authorities to get a better look at the suspects and what happened.
Investigators say, after the robbery, they asked homeowners and nearby businesses for additional footage. In this case, video from neighbors also helped.
Officials say people should keep an eye out for anyone not dressed for the weather. In both robberies, the suspects were dressed in hoodies and jackets when it was warm outside.
Anytime someone is acting odd, call police. If you work at a business and someone tries to rob you, police say the best thing to do is be a good witness. It means noticing everything the suspect does, how he or she looks and what direction the suspect leaves.
