CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The suspect in a series of motor vehicle burglaries is a former Champaign Police officer. The thefts happened Sunday, between 1 – 6:30 am, in Fisher.

Authorities say at least ten different vehicles were accessed at seven various locations. All vehicles were accessed by unlocked doors and none sustained damage.

Fisher Police requested help from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office in which video surveillance footage was obtained from a homeowner/victim.

43-year old R. Justus Clinton, of the 200-block of Medinah Court, Fisher, was arrested about 10:20 pm, Monday. He faces charges of burglary to a motor vehicle and residential burglary since one car was parked inside an attached garage.

Authorities encourage anyone who has information or may be victims who have not reported the crime, to contact them. Investigators say the first measure of preventing a burglary or theft is to keep car, home and garaged doors closed and locked.
