Police need leads to solve recent shootings

Local News

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Police need help solving three shootings this past week.

They’re trying to get guns off the street, but say they can’t do it alone. Police Chief Jim Getz says something he’s said too many times: Qut solving fights with guns.

It comes after three shootings in roughly 72 hours; two of them drive-bys; one what police are investigating as an attempted murder.

The drive-bys happened Sunday night on East Condit and Monday morning on North Water Street. Two teens were hit, but are expected to be okay.

The attempted murder happened Wednesday night in the 1100-block of East Johns Avenue. Officers say the victim was walking east from Calhoun Street. He was shot six times and hit in the buttocks and leg. He’s also expected to be okay, but Chief Getz says they’ll be cracking down to find the suspects.

No word if any of the shootings are related. Police say they’re looking into that, but what they really need is for people to come forward with any relevant information to help solve the crimes.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers. You can remain anonymous and may earn a cash reward.
