CHARLESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — Police say a man used counterfeit money to purchase lottery tickets.

Authorities responded to Murphy USA, Sunday, November 11, for a complaint of someone using $1,400 in counterfeit bills.

Detectives tracked winning lottery tickets to each place they were redeemed and identified the suspect as Cody Pearcy. He’s being charged with forgery and money laundering.

Officials say, since he used his vehicle in the furtherance of the money laundering, his vehicle was also seized pending a hearing.
