Police chief to retire

Local News

TOLONO, Ill. (WCIA) — Police Chief Rick Raney announced he will officially be retiring. Raney stepped down while ISP investigated him.

The Champaign County State’s Attorney’s office said there will be no charges filed against him. Tolono village leaders said the investigation didn’t involve Raney’s time serving the village. The investigation was about something he was accused of back in 1970.

Raney served with the police department for 24 years. The state’s attorney’s office decided against charges because of the statute of limitations. They said even if that were not a factor, they didn’t think there was enough evidence to form a case.

There is still not a firm date for when his last day will be.
