Police chief: Scammers targeting tornado victims

Local News

TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Police Chief Brian Hile is one of many being targeted by scammers looking to make a buck at the expense of tornado victims. He’s urging residents to be aware.

Solicitors are going door-to-door and calling people. Hile says they’re claiming they’ll show up to a home to remove debris without being asked.

If someone does this to you, he says, take down  information like their license plate and business logo.

The mayor’s office also received several calls about the issue. City leaders urge you to hire people you know, don’t pay upfront and ask for a pink slip from the city.
