URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Some people took the time during Monday’s beautiful weather to get outside and help Mother Nature.

The Forest Preserve of Champaign County and Walmart teamed up to pick up trash. The teams cleaned up near the Kickapoo Trail that runs behind Walmart and Aldi in Urbana.

Earth Day isn’t the only day that you can be earth conscience. “You get a lot of plastic bags, a lot of styrofoam cups so some of the things we encourage is for people to try to reduce the use of those things. Use a refillable water bottle whenever you can. If you can not use plastic bags and bring your own bags when you go to a grocery store that’s a great help. Something very simple that anyone can do”, says director of planning and operations for the Champaign County Forest Preserve, Jon Hasselbring.

There were about 150 volunteers out picking up trash.
