Petition to put ward question on ballots

Local News

RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) — A group of concerned citizens filed a petition to ask voters whether the village should be divided into six districts.

Right now, most trustees live in the northern part of town. The group says it means there’s little representation for the southern half, so they want the village to be split into wards.

Friday, they submitted more than 500 signatures to the county, asking the question be put on November’s ballot.

The village has the option of filing an objection, but administrators say they don’t expect to take a stance on the issue.
