DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — People are getting fed up over unkempt lots filled with grass.
Neighbors are calling in to the city complaining about the unmowed grass in the abandoned lots all over town. Earlier this year, the city cut 17 auxiliary worker positions because of budget problems. Those workers were in charge of mowing the grass in the abandoned lots the city doesn’t own.
“It’s all over the place. You go out on the east end and everywhere you look there’s grass three feet tall everywhere. Your kids are out there at night time when you’re cooking and you’re getting infested with mosquitos, and mice problems galore and it’s everywhere.”
Public works says there are about 360 abandoned lots that aren’t owned by the city. And now that the auxiliary workers are gone, the grass will continue to not be mowed.
