DANVILLE — The Davis S. Palmer Arena will get $3 million gift to build a new Ice Center entrance on the south side of the facility and replace aging machinery. The gift is a bequest of Julius W. Hegeler, II.

In 2014, the arena was awarded a grant from the state, which is just now being distributed. The $850,000 is going toward roof repairs, renovations and upgrades.

Leaders say the additional cost of replacing the ice machinery and any other construction would not have been feasible within the budget of the state grant.
