OAKLAND, Ill. (WCIA) — A club started in the late 1800’s is still going strong in Our Town.
The Ladies Mutual Improvement Group meets once a month, but it’s always been considered a pretty exclusive club.
The ladies all volunteer to keep the library running. The club started in 1896. Over the years, some of the original policies have gone away, but you still have to be invited to join.
Each meeting starts with a Pledge of Allegiance. For roll call, the women each talk about a book she’s read that month.
The group is also all donation-based.
