COVINGTON, Ind. (WCIA) — Most people love where they live. Residents in Our Town couldn’t say enough nice things about their home.

They refer to people’s generous spirits and the dedication to helping others are just a few things it’s known for. A lot of people were born here and are now raising families of their own.

Several say they’ve stayed because of the people and can’t imagine living anywhere else. Covington, Indiana, is a town nearly 3,000 people call home.

“It’s just a good place to live.”

“It’s just the friendliness of the neighborhood.”

“We have tremendous community pride in Covington. You see it in our houses. I think you see it in our business district.”

Just a few of the reasons people say Our Town Covington is the best. Don’t forget about what it has to offer.

“We’ve got this great downtown. We’ve got a gazebo. We have Christmas carolers in there at Christmas time. I mean, it’s just such a great small town and it’s that feeling of community spirit.”

It was founded in the early 1800’s. Things look a lot different than they used to, but people are glad to call it their own.

“It’s my hometown to start with. It’s just a nice, quiet, peaceful place to live.”

“That’s the first thing that impressed me was the beautiful trees and the homes and it’s such a welcoming community.”

Places like Circle Trail and ongoing efforts to renovate the city park show, whenever the town needs a helping hand, people are ready to pitch in.

“When there’s an event or something to showcase our town, the group comes together and we just like, ‘What about this? What about that?’ We love this. We want to show people this.”

If you recognize the song, it’s On the Banks of the Wabash, written by Paul Dresser, in 1897. The Wabash River runs through Covington and now the song is known throughout the world.
